The course
This induction course has been developed by the South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) and the African Wildlife Economy Institute (AWEI) at Stellenbosch University.
The course has been designed for the South Africa's Scientific Authority, but it will be of interest to all stakeholders in engaged in the use, harvesting and trade of wild plants and animals.
What you will learn
We have built four modules plus one optional module to unravel the complexities surrounding the regulation of international trade in endangered species. Understanding that jumping into such a vast and nuanced subject might be daunting, we've organised the content step-by-step. Your instructor
With over three decades of dedicated service in conservation economics, Dr Francis Vorhies has carved out a niche as an expert in the international policies that govern the use and trade of wild flora and fauna. Having held various leadership roles within conservation organizations such as IUCN, Francis boasts an in-depth understanding of the complexities surrounding the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) and other international conservation and trade agreements.
As the founding director of the African Wildlife Economy Institute (AWEI) at Stellenbosch University, Dr Vorhies has been leading the conversation on conservation Africa's magnificent wildlife through an enterprise approach which aligns conservation with development.
